Description

PVC Socket x Female BSP Adaptor

This PVC Socket x Female BSP Adaptor provides a reliable transition between imperial solvent weld PVC pipework and male BSP threaded fittings, valves or equipment. The fitting combines a plain solvent weld socket with a female BSP threaded connection in a compact, straight adaptor.

The socket end is permanently joined to imperial PVC pipe using suitable solvent cement, while the female BSP connection allows pumps, valves, gauges and other male threaded components to be incorporated into the PVC system.

Typical Applications

Socket x female BSP adaptors are commonly used where an imperial PVC pressure system needs to connect to threaded components such as valves, pumps, filters, pressure gauges, manifolds and other BSP threaded equipment.

Sizing – Imperial PVC Pipe & Fittings

Imperial PVC pipe is sized by its nominal bore rather than its actual outside diameter. The socket of the corresponding PVC fitting is manufactured to accept the outside diameter of the appropriate imperial pipe.

Pipe Size 1/2" 3/4" 1" 1 1/4" 1 1/2" 2" 2 1/2" 3" 4"
Outside Diameter (mm) 21.4 26.7 33.6 42.2 48.3 60.3 75.2 88.9 114.3

BSP Thread Sizing

BSP thread sizes are nominal sizes and therefore do not directly correspond to the measured outside diameter of the thread. The approximate outside diameters of male BSP threads are shown below to help identify the correct female BSP adaptor.

Nominal BSP Size 1/2" 3/4" 1" 1 1/4" 1 1/2" 2" 2 1/2" 3" 4"
Approx. Male Thread Diameter (mm) 21.0 26.4 33.2 41.9 47.8 59.6 75.2 87.9 113.0

Pressure Rating

  • PVC solvent weld fittings (1/2" to 8"): up to 15 bar (215 psi) at 20°C
  • PVC threaded fittings (1/2" to 4"): up to 12 bar (170 psi) at 20°C

Maximum working pressure reduces as temperature increases. PVC pressure systems should not be used at operating temperatures above 60°C.

Standards & Approvals

Imperial solvent weld PVC fittings are generally manufactured in accordance with EN 1452-3. Threaded PVC fittings are generally manufactured in accordance with applicable BSP thread standards.

These fittings are WRAS approved and suitable for potable drinking water applications.

Installation

The plain socket connection should be prepared using the appropriate PVC cleaner before applying solvent cement and inserting the correct size of imperial PVC pipe. Allow the joint to cure in accordance with the adhesive manufacturer's instructions before pressurising the system.

For the threaded connection, use an appropriate thread-sealing method suitable for PVC and avoid overtightening the male fitting into the female PVC thread.

Shop Imperial PVC Pipe and PVC Glue, Adhesive & Cleaner for everything required to complete the joint.
