Description
PVC Socket x Male BSP Adaptor
The PVC Socket x Male BSP Adaptor is designed to transition from imperial solvent weld PVC pipework to a female BSP threaded connection. It combines a plain solvent weld socket with a male BSP thread, providing a straightforward way to connect PVC pressure pipe to valves, pumps, filters and other threaded equipment.
The socket end is permanently joined to the PVC pipe using solvent cement, while the male BSP thread screws into a compatible female threaded fitting. This makes the adaptor particularly useful where PVC pipework needs to terminate at, or transition into, threaded components.

They are suitable for a wide range of water treatment, swimming pool, irrigation, industrial and general water supply installations.
Sizing – Imperial PVC Pipe & Fittings
Imperial PVC pipe sizes are based on nominal bore and should not be confused with the actual measured outside diameter of the pipe. Use the table below to identify the outside diameter (O.D.) corresponding to each imperial pipe size.
| Pipe Size | 1/2" | 3/4" | 1" | 1 1/4" | 1 1/2" | 2" | 2 1/2" | 3" | 4" |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Outside Diameter (mm) | 21.4 | 26.7 | 33.6 | 42.2 | 48.3 | 60.3 | 75.2 | 88.9 | 114.3 |
BSP Thread Sizing
BSP thread sizes are nominal and do not directly correspond to their measured outside diameter. The table below shows the approximate outside diameter of common male BSP threads to help identify the correct connection size.
| Nominal BSP Size | 1/2" | 3/4" | 1" | 1 1/4" | 1 1/2" | 2" | 2 1/2" | 3" | 4" |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Approx. Thread Diameter (mm) | 21.0 | 26.4 | 33.2 | 41.9 | 47.8 | 59.6 | 75.2 | 87.9 | 113.0 |
Pressure Rating
- PVC solvent weld fittings (1/2" to 8"): up to 15 bar (215 psi) at 20°C
- PVC threaded fittings (1/2" to 4"): up to 12 bar (170 psi) at 20°C
Working pressure reduces as operating temperature increases. PVC pressure systems should not be used where temperatures exceed 60°C.
Standards & Approvals
Imperial solvent weld PVC fittings are generally manufactured in accordance with EN 1452-3. Threaded PVC fittings are generally manufactured in accordance with applicable BSP thread standards.
These fittings are WRAS approved and suitable for potable drinking water applications.
Installation
Prepare the pipe and socket using a suitable PVC cleaner before applying solvent cement and assembling the joint. Always follow the adhesive manufacturer's recommended preparation and curing times before pressurising the system.
When installing the male BSP thread, use a suitable thread seal such as PTFE tape or an appropriate thread-sealing compound. PVC threaded connections are designed to tighten and seal rather than screw completely into the mating fitting. Avoid overtightening, as excessive force can damage PVC threaded components.
