Description

PVC 90° Elbow – Plain x Female BSP

This PVC 90° Plain x Female BSP Elbow combines a change of direction with a threaded transition in a single fitting. One end incorporates an imperial solvent weld socket for PVC pressure pipe, while the other provides a female BSP thread for connecting male threaded valves, fittings or equipment.

The 90-degree configuration is particularly useful where threaded equipment needs to be connected at right angles to the main pipe run, reducing the need to install a separate elbow and threaded adaptor.

Compatible imperial pipework can be found in our Imperial PVC Pipe range. For preparing and joining the solvent weld connection, see our selection of PVC Adhesives & Cleaners.

Product Features

  • 90° PVC pressure elbow
  • Imperial plain solvent weld socket
  • Female BSP threaded connection
  • Connects PVC pipe to male BSP threaded components
  • Changes pipe direction and connection type in one fitting
  • Suitable for water, irrigation, filtration and other pressure systems
  • Corrosion-resistant PVC construction
  • WRAS approved
  • Suitable for potable drinking water

Connecting PVC Pipe to BSP Equipment

A plain x female BSP elbow is ideal where an imperial PVC pipeline needs to turn through 90° and connect directly to a male threaded component. Typical examples include connections to pumps, valves, filters, gauges, manifolds and water treatment equipment.

Combining both functions within one fitting can create a more compact installation and reduce the number of solvent weld joints required compared with using separate adaptors and elbows.

Imperial PVC Pipe Sizing

Imperial PVC pressure pipe is identified by its nominal inch size. This is not the same as the measured outside diameter (O.D.) of the pipe. Use the table below when checking which imperial PVC size you require.

Imperial Pipe Size Pipe Outside Diameter
1/2" 21.4 mm
3/4" 26.7 mm
1" 33.6 mm
1 1/4" 42.2 mm
1 1/2" 48.3 mm
2" 60.3 mm
2 1/2" 75.2 mm
3" 88.9 mm
4" 114.3 mm

BSP Thread Size Guide

BSP threads also use nominal inch sizes, so measuring a male thread will give a different dimension from its stated BSP size. The measurements below show the approximate outside diameter of common male BSP threads and can be used to help select the corresponding female BSP elbow.

BSP Size Approx. Male Thread O.D.
1/2" 21.0 mm
3/4" 26.4 mm
1" 33.2 mm
1 1/4" 41.9 mm
1 1/2" 47.8 mm
2" 59.6 mm
2 1/2" 75.2 mm
3" 87.9 mm
4" 113.0 mm

Pressure Rating

PVC solvent weld fittings from 1/2" to 8" have a pressure rating of up to 15 bar (215 psi) at 20°C. Threaded PVC fittings from 1/2" to 4" are rated up to 12 bar (170 psi) at 20°C.

These ratings apply at 20°C. As fluid and operating temperatures increase, the permissible working pressure of PVC reduces. PVC systems should not be used at temperatures exceeding 60°C.

WRAS Approval & Standards

Imperial solvent weld PVC fittings are generally manufactured in accordance with EN 1452-3. Threaded PVC fittings are generally manufactured in accordance with applicable BSP thread standards.

The fittings are WRAS approved and suitable for use with potable drinking water.

Installation Advice

For the solvent weld connection, ensure that the pipe is cut square and that both mating surfaces are clean and correctly prepared. Apply a suitable solvent cement before assembling the pipe and socket. Browse our PVC Glue & Cleaner range for suitable jointing products.

The female BSP connection should be installed using an appropriate thread seal. When connecting a male fitting into a PVC female thread, avoid excessive tightening as this can place unnecessary stress on the PVC fitting.
